Day 6 – 30 Day 30 Chew Challenge

Tongue Exercises!

Tongue twisters and raps, snapping gum, tying a cherry stem into a knot – aside from these feats, what possible benefits are there to tongue exercises? And what are tongue exercises?

Like any muscle, exercise strengthens the tongue. Already by actively chewing more, your tongue is working more, flexing, curving, and convexing. Doing tongue exercises heps support longevity by ensuring a healthy ability to swallow. Additionally, those dealing with sleep apnea may find relief in regular tongue exercises.

Rather than reinvent the wheel, take 10 minutes to practice the traits in this video to help you strengthen your tongue. Check out the French version for a different approach.

Try resting your tongue fully against your palate -there is a practice called ‘mewing’ which focuses on the posture of your tongue and how it can help to bring definition to your face. While the verdict varies from person to person, you’re welcome to try and see what you think for yourself.
